Adhai Kangra Mosque is a historical monument located in the ‘shivaite’ stronghold of Varanasi and symbolizing the city as the cultural capital of India. Additionally, the mosque possesses a historical significance as being one of the earliest monuments built during the period that saw the Muslim rule establishing their stronghold over South East Asia.
The name Adhai Kangra means 2 ½ domes, although the mosque has just a single one. Depicting marvelous structure, there exists various buildings and a prayer hall conducting prayer service to this day. Some believe that Hindu inscriptions dating back to 12th century exists on its walls. The entrance is through a majestic east gate, with the Kashi railway station in front of it. The monument today serves as a popular destination for history lovers and patrons of ancient architecture.
